About 2024 2 oz Ice Age Woolly Mammoth Silver Coin Tube (14 Pcs) – Royal Canadian Mint
Royal Canadian Mint is Introducing the woolly mammoth, a giant from the Ice Age in this #2 Coin series of ancient creatures. These mammoths were massive, standing over three meters tall and weighing up to 8 tonnes. You can spot them easily by their long, curved tusks, which are iconic fossils from Canada’s Ice Age.
These creatures roamed the frozen lands of Canada some 100,000 years ago, adapted perfectly to the cold with thick fur, skin, and small tails and ears. Despite thriving for thousands of years, they began to vanish around 12,000 years ago, although some small groups persisted until about 4,000 years ago.
In June 2022, an incredible discovery was made in Yukon’s gold fields: a 30,000-year-old mummified woolly mammoth calf, perfectly preserved in the permafrost with its skin and hair intact. This find was a significant milestone in our understanding of these ancient beasts.
The Royal Canadian Mint has captured the essence of these mammoths beautifully in Coin #2, using various engraving techniques to bring depth and texture to the portrayal of this famous Ice Age mammal.
Tubes of this Woolly mammoth comes with 14 coins.
