Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Niue is a small island in free association with New Zealand. New Zealand conducts most diplomatic relations on the island’s behalf, however Niue itself is a self-governing state. Niue has about 100 square miles of land mass. The island is about 1,500 miles, or 2,400 kilometers away from New Zealand. This lovely island is famous for its beautiful limestone cliffs, coral-reef dive sites, beautiful sights, and much more. The island has a steadily decreasing population, with only 1,643 citizens as of 2022. Majority of the population moved across the ocean to live in New Zealand.

About Niue

Niue originally began issuing tender non-circulating bullion commemorative coins in 1966. Later on, in 2009, they began issuing standardizing coin sets based on an increasing demand. Although Niue is in association with New Zealand, their currency has slight differences. Since Niue is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the obverse faces of their coins display a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The New Zealand mint has been releasing legal tender commemorative coins, bullion, and medallions for over four decades. Their precious metals products include high-quality designs and precision productions.

What is Niue known for?

Throughout the years, Niue has made a name for itself, with their crazy and creative designs. They’ve built a reputation around the world for their technologically advanced designs, extreme attention to detail, and incredibly unique coins. Their merchandise is known for featuring “photorealistic” designs, with colourized images and unique shames. Typically, the coins feature a central motif etched and photo engraved, giving more depth to the illustrations.
