The 1-ounce silver .45 caliber bullet is patterned after the classic .45 handgun cartridge invented by John Browning for the ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) in 1905, or .45 Auto. After assessments and years of successful military testing, it was accepted as the standard chambering for Colt’s M1911 handgun, the standard-issue sidearm until 1986. ACPs are no longer the principal sidearm of the US military, but they are still used by police and military units across the globe.
