Renowned US engraver John M. Mercanti has portrayed Australia’s largest bird of prey, the wedge-tailed eagle for The Perth Mint in a series of outstanding designs since 2014. Wedge-tailed eagles in the entire continent can be distinguished by their distinctive wedge-shaped tails and fully feathered legs. The moderately forested areas are preferred by the large birds where they may hunt for food such as rabbits, hares, lizards, and snakes.
