Vivat Humanitas
As legal tender in Niue, the obverse features the Public Seal of Niue in the center of the design. This is encircled by a plain background. Inscriptions are “NIUE . 2023 . 2 DOLLARS.”
The reverse design celebrates the concept of Vivat Humanitas (Latin for Long Live Humanity!) As humanity has advanced over the millennia, also it has been increasingly enlightened through the development and spreading of metallurgy across the globe. The design features a scene reminiscent of the beginnings of democracy. In the background is a gathering of scholars and philosophers among ancient Greek buildings with an Acropolis rendition on the right. The center features a Greek column with “δημοκρατια” (‘democracy’ in Greek) inscribed on it. An eye is in the center surrounded by an ornate Greek-style decoration. Other inscriptions are “VIVAT HUMANITAS” AND 1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER.”
