In 1913, the United States Mint introduced the Buffalo Nickel. It was created by James Earle Fraser during the presidency of William H. Taft, and Fraser drew. Each coin is delivered to you in the brilliant uncirculated condition in protective plastic flips for single rounds and tubes for 20 rounds. The 1 troy ounce Silver Buffalo Round does not feature a year of issue, but other coins or rounds from Silvertowne have every detail.
The obverse features a modernized version of James Earl Fraser’s Indian Head Nickel, commonly called the Buffalo Nickel, with an Indian head design. Several chiefs, comprising Big Tree of the Kiowa, Two Moons of the Cheyenne, and Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux, were the inspiration for the painting of a Native American man. “LIBERTY” is spelled out. The date stated on the obverse was subsequently erased by SilverTowne. Depending on the general availability, rounds may not always reflect the timestamp.
The reverse depicts an American buffalo, which was influenced by the Central Park Zoo’s 1,550-pound buffalo dubbed Black Diamond. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the size and quality are among the engravings.
