Description
One of the purest gold coins made by the United States Mint, the 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin is struck in 1 troy ounce of 24-karat gold. The iconic Buffalo Nickel, which was minted from 1913 to 1938, is honored in the coin’s design.
The Native American chief depicted on the coin’s obverse (front) is thought to be a composite of Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons, three actual tribal chiefs. A detailed image of a Native American chief is shown, along with the word “LIBERTY” and the year the coin was struck.
An image of an American bison, also known as a buffalo, can be found on the coin’s reverse (back). This majestic creature is portrayed in great detail, standing on a mound of dirt. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “$50,” and the weight and fineness of “1 OZ..9999 FINE GOLD” are also written on the coin’s reverse side.
Due to its purity, timeless design, and connection to American history, the 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin is highly prized by both investors and collectors. Despite having an intrinsic gold value that is significantly higher than its nominal value of $50, it is recognized as legal tender in the US.
