Although 1982 was not an expansion year for the series, it was the first year in which purity increased to .9999 24-karat gold.
Most importantly, they’re struck by the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth II is the subject of the obverse of the 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins of 2021. Her Majesty is shown in right-profile relief in a fourth-generation design by Susanna Blunt. This coin was also the first to be issued during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign without a crown on her head.
While the reverse of the 2021 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin carries the historic emblem of Canada, designed by Walter Ott for the debut of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins in 1979.
