Since 1982, the Mexican Mint, officially known as the Casa de Moneda de Mexico, had released the Mexican Libertad silver coin. The beautiful depiction of the Mexican national symbol, the Angel of Independence, is just what makes the coins so popular. The Winged Victory statue served as inspiration for the Angel.

The contemporary Mexican Coat of Arms is featured in the middle of a wheel of earlier Coat of Arms versions on the obverse of the Mexican Libertad silver coin. It depicts an eagle perched atop a cactus with a snake in its mouth and talon. A circular border surrounds the image. The top half reads “Estados Unidos Mexicanos,” while the bottom half is framed by an olive and oak wreath.
On the back is a depiction of the “El Angel,” or Angel of Independence, which was constructed in 1910 to commemorate the Mexican War of Independence’s centenary. The Angel, inspired by Nike, holds a laurel wreath inside one hand to represent victory.
