More About Silver Virgin Islands

Christopher Columbus used the Santa Maria, originally nicknamed La Gallega, during his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. The other two ships were the Niña and the Pinta. Columbus’ ships were improved versions of the Redonda caravel, a medium-sized carrack that was around 58 feet (17.7 meters) long.

A three-masted ship, one of the two masts is square-rigged, and the other has a lateen for wide open seas and coastline manoeuvres, respectively. Thanks to a clever combination of ropes, that sailor created some of the finest sailing ships of the day.
