About the Mexican 5 Oz Silver Libertad 2021 coins

The silver Mexican Libertad coins have risen rapidly in popularity since it’s release, carrying the tradition of this coin series. The designs of both the obverse face and the reverse face of the coin displays significant Mexican symbols, including the national coat of arms. Additionally the coins are guaranteed by the Bank of Mexico. The coins are made of 5 troy ounces of .999 fine Silver. 

The obverse face of the coin displays the sculptural relief of the National shield. Encompassing the shield, is the legend “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” which translates to “the United Mexican States”. Surrounding the national shield, are the 10 national coats of arms used throughout Mexican history. The current Coat of arms of Mexico displays a Mexican golden eagle with a rattlesnake in its beak. The eagle is perched on a prickly cactus. The inspiration behind the design of the coat of arms is rooted in a Mexican legend. In the legend, the god Huitzilopochiti told the Aztec people to build their city where they saw an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake. 

The reverse face of the Libertad coin displays the winged Victory statue with the Mexican volcanoes Popocatépetl and Izatccíhuatl in the background. These two symbols hold great value, as they are two iconic and meaningful symbols to the Mexican people. The reverse face also includes the Mexican Mint’s mintmark.
