About the 2021 Type 2 1 Oz American Silver Eagles 

First, when looking at the obverse face of the coin, you won’t notice a difference between these and the Type 1. This face features the classic walking liberty design made by Adolph A. Weinman. Weinman created this masterpiece back in 1916. It was meant to be used on the U.S Mint’s half dollar, but was later taken on by the Eagle’s. The U.S mint has carried over this design for over 100 years. Other than the walking Liberty design, the obverse face of the coin also contains the 2021 year of mintage. It also features ‘LIBERTY’ as well as the U.S Mint’s motto “In God We Trust”.

Moving onto the reverse face of these silver coins, you will see a fresh new design. It shows a detailed etching of the American Bald Eagle with its wings spread carrying a large oak branch. Like it’s predecessor, around the border of the coin it says “United States of America”. The reverse face of the coin also contains the $1 face value that it carries. 

It took the U.S Mint nearly all of 2020 to come to the decision to pick this new design. It was 1 out of 35 designs that was under consideration to be the next monumental change. This etching was designed by the talented Emily Damstra.
