The obverse side of the 2023 American Silver Eagle coin depicts the iconic image of Liberty by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. However, the American flag is loosely draped over Lady Liberty’s shoulders as she walks towards the setting sun, holding oak and laurel branches in her left arm.
The reverse of the 2023 Silver Eagle features an interpretation by AIP (Artist Infusion Program) member Emily Damstra with technical help from Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. While with its wings open wide, the majestic bald eagle swoops down to land with an oak branch in its talons as if to strengthen its nest. Adding a further layer of depth to the stunning design is oak’s association with nobility, wisdom, and honour.
